The government fee for most Georgian residence permits is GEL 300, GEL 450 or GEL 600, for a decision in 30, 20 or 10 days. The IT permit costs GEL 500, GEL 750 or GEL 1,000, and a right to work costs GEL 200 or GEL 400. Apostilles, translations, notary work, valuations and insurance come on top, and those depend on your country and your documents.
Residence permit fees
Fees from the Public Service Development Agency (PSDA) residence permit page, retrieved October 2026. The PSDA is the agency that issues permits. You choose the speed, and the fee rises with it.
| Permit | Decision in 30 days | Decision in 20 days | Decision in 10 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Work, study, family reunification, former citizen, investment, short-term (property), special for Article 60 persons | GEL 300 | GEL 450 | GEL 600 |
| IT residence permit | GEL 500 | GEL 750 | GEL 1,000 |
| Permanent residence permit | GEL 500 | GEL 650 | not offered |
| Spouse of a Georgian citizen | GEL 500, decided within 90 days | ||
| Special permit for trafficking victims, compatriots or on a Government member's initiative | Free, 10 days | ||
| Unlimited residence permit | 30 or 20 days; fee not shown on the PSDA page | ||
| Deferral of the obligation to leave Georgia | GEL 65, 5 days | ||
You pay the fee again for each extension. First work, study and family permits now run for 6 months to 1 year, so expect to pay more than once in the first years.
Right to work fees
Since 1 March 2026 anyone who works or runs a business in Georgia needs a right to work before the work residence permit, unless an exemption applies. The State Employment Support Agency decides. Fees under Government Ordinance No 70 of 20 February 2026, Article 11:
| Service | Fee |
|---|---|
| Right to work, decision on the 30th calendar day | GEL 200 |
| Right to work, decision on the 10th working day | GEL 400 |
| Extension | GEL 200 |
The Labour Migration Law caps this fee at GEL 500. According to Civil.ge, the employer pays for employees, and a self-employed foreigner pays their own fee. So a self-employed person on the work route pays two government fees: one for the right to work and one for the residence permit. See the work permit page.
Older fee figures you may still see
Some guides quote base fees of GEL 210 from Ordinance No 508 of 29 December 2011. Those figures are out of date. Use the PSDA page.
Costs outside government fees
These are real costs that no government table shows. We give no amounts, because they depend on your country, the number of documents and the provider.
| Cost | Paid to | When you need it |
|---|---|---|
| Civil documents (birth, marriage certificates) | Your own civil registry | Family, spouse and permanent routes |
| Apostille or legalisation | The issuing country's authority, or a consulate | Every foreign document (Ordinance 520, Article 4) |
| Certified Georgian translation | A translator in Georgia, plus certification | Every foreign document except a Latin-script passport |
| Notary in Georgia | A Georgian notary | Certified copies, a power of attorney for a representative, and translation certification where used |
| Property valuation | A certified valuer of an accredited body | Short-term (above USD 150,000) and investment (above USD 300,000) property routes |
| Audit of the investment | An auditor | Investment permit on the investment route |
| Health and accident insurance | A Georgian or foreign insurer | Tourists entering Georgia since 1 January 2026, with at least GEL 30,000 of cover |
| Residence card | Fee not checked | After approval, within 1 month |
| Professional fees | A lawyer or service, if you use one | Optional; not a legal requirement |
What is not yet established. We have not checked the residence card fee or the fee for the unlimited residence permit. We also have not confirmed whether residence permit holders must carry the GEL 30,000 tourist insurance on entry. Ask the Public Service Hall about the card fee when you file.
What the fee does not buy
A government fee pays for a decision within a set time. It does not buy an approval. The Agency can refuse on the grounds in Article 18 of the Aliens Law, including state security grounds that it does not have to explain in full. If you are refused, you can reapply on the same basis after 1 month. See the application process.
How to read a quote from a service
A quote for Georgian residency should show three parts. If it does not, ask.
- Government fees. These should match the tables above and depend on the speed you choose.
- Third-party costs: apostilles, translations, notary, valuation, courier.
- The provider's own fee, and what it covers: one permit or extensions too, the right to work or only the residence permit, card collection or not.
Two very different totals often cover different work. Compare the scope line by line. Our own fees are not public yet. You can see the current status on our pricing section or ask us through the contact form. For help choosing any provider, see how to choose a Georgia residency service.
