Georgia residence permit for digital nomads

A Georgia residence permit for digital nomads does not exist as a named category. What exists is a set of ordinary routes that remote workers use, and for many nationalities the simplest one involves no permit at all.

The 365-day stay

Citizens of a long list of countries can enter Georgia visa free and stay for up to a year. For a remote worker that covers the first year without any application, which is why so few people start with a permit.

What it does not do is accumulate towards permanent residence, because that count runs on residence permits.

A Georgia residence permit for digital nomads: the routes that exist

  • Business: Register an individual entrepreneur or a company and apply on that basis. This is what most self-employed remote workers end up on.
  • Work: Employment with a Georgian employer, which since March 2026 also needs a separate right-to-work permission.
  • Property: Ownership above the threshold supports a short-term permit.

The tax side, which is the real question

Staying 183 days or more in a rolling twelve months makes you a Georgian tax resident. Most remote workers who settle here register as an individual entrepreneur with small business status and pay 1% on turnover.

Note what that implies: the work you do while sitting in Georgia is Georgian-source. The 1% is not an exemption, it is a cheap rate. Reading Georgia as a place where remote income is untaxed is the mistake to avoid.
