A Georgia study residence permit is granted on the strength of enrolment at an accredited Georgian institution. It lasts as long as the studies and ends with them. The enrolment is the permit's foundation, not a formality attached to it.
Georgia study residence permit: what is checked
- Enrolment at an accredited institution, documented by the institution itself.
- Means of support, and somewhere to live.
- Health insurance covering the permit period.
- Foreign documents apostilled and translated, as with every other route.
When studies end early
Dropping out or being deregistered removes the ground the permit rests on. The permit can be terminated, and it certainly will not be renewed. Anyone changing course should sort out the next ground before the enrolment lapses, not after.
Working while studying
A residence permit is not a right to work. Since March 2026 the right to work is a separate permission with its own fee, and a study permit does not include it. Treat employment as a second application rather than something the student status covers.
The useful part
Years on a study permit are years on a residence permit, so they count towards the six years of continuous residence that permanent residence needs, as long as there is no gap. A degree and a clock running at the same time is a real advantage of this route, and the one most students do not notice until later.
